Laminates and wood fibreboards
Laminate and wood fibreboards can be flame retarded with Apyrum. Examples of products that can be processed include MDFs, HDFs, Particleboard, OSBs, Plywood, Veneer, Board on frame, Honeycomb, Corrugated Cardboard, and other spacer materials and discs.
For flame retardant laminate boards and fibreboard, Apyrum is used in liquid form, and then added in the manufacture of the disc by impregnation.
Different fire requirements can be achieved depending on how much flame retardant is applied and the other characteristics of the disc.
Impregnation and application process
The most common and best method of application is to impregnate the wood fibre through a mixing process that takes place prior to drying and binding. The fibre should absorb Apyrum, which should be well-dispersed throughout the fibre. An even dispersion can be attained by regulating the amount of water used. The binder’s hardening time can be affected, and the parameters of the process must be adjusted to different products.
The amount of active substance is important as the balance between the active substance, binder, amount of fibre, as well as the density of the board and it’s inherent fire properties are that which determines the result.
Expected results & properties
- Material that has been fire retardant with Apyrum can meet very high fire demands, such as SIS 65 00 82.
- Further example of fire requirements are EN 13501 B/C.
- Low smoke release.
- Depending on the amount of Apyrum, some cases may affect the physical and mechanical properties.
- Superior environmental performance.
- Free from borax, urea, nitrogen and ammonia.
Choice of Apyrum product
There are several alternative Apyrum products that could be used depending on the end product. It is most probably a liquid product consisting of water and Apyrum in the form of a water-soluble salt.
The amount of active substance is adapted through optimization to the materials fire properties and to the degree of fire protection that is required. We have different variations of Apyrum that are suited to different fibre and processes.
The different versions of Apyrum that can be used are:
Apyrum 201 BIO-FR WOOD
Apyrum 201 BIO-FR CANVAS
Apyrum 201 Heavy
Also Apyrum 101 can be an alternative
